Speaking at a reception organised in his honour in Abuja by Concerned Ebonyi State Indigenes, Onu said his conduct will be such that will not bring shame to the state instead he would quit politics.
“One assurance that I will always give you and I have said it repeatedly is that, as your son, I will never do something that you will be ashamed of. It is better for me to leave politics than for me to do something for my own selfish interest that will make you to be ashamed of your son. I will continue to act in a way that Nigerians will know that Ebonyi State is truly the Salt of the Nation.
“I want to assure you that I will make sure that I will be the best minister Nigeria ever had.”
The former governor of old Abia State said no nation has ever become great without science and technology, pointing out that with core investments in the sector, the country has the potential of becoming one of the 10 leading economies of the world, especially with her population advantage.
Onu attributed the success stories of the US, China, Japan and other leading economies of the world to their advancements in science and technology. He regretted that his dream of replicating a technology village in Abia State 23 years ago was truncated by the military.
He said: “I want you to go home with this word; no nation from the beginning of time has ever become great without embracing science and technology.
“Nigeria has the potential not just to become one of the 20 leading economies but to be one of the 10 leading economies in the world if you look at our population. But we cannot do it without science and technology…”
