Why Adamawa State University VC Was Sacked - Commissioner

The Adamawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has given reasons for the sudden sacking of the Vice Chancellor (VC), Adamawa State University (ADSU), Professor Joshua David Shall, on Wednesday, October 4, 2015. He said since the former VC assumed office at the Ivory Tower, over a year ago, the tertiary institution never witnessed peace as it was engulfed in one crisis or the other due to petty squabbles, chaos, lack of sanity and financial misappropriation.

The Commissioner made the revelations in an exclusive interview with Indigo newspaper in Yola. He said “since the former VC became the helmsman at the university, a lot of problems bedevilled the institution. The state government tried to resolve the outstanding issues amicably but failed when I intervened personally. Ultimately, a Visitation Panel was constituted to investigate and come up with recommendations.
“The major recommendation to government was that for peace to reign in the University, the VC had to be removed. Consequently, government acted appropriately and dropped the VC to bring sanity to the University.”
The Commissioner said an Acting VC has already been appointed. He is Dr. Moses Zaruwa, the former Deputy VC, Academic, of the institution, and added that if the former VC feels aggrieved he should go to court.
He also told Indigo that the Bursar, Mr. Kumti Ezra Anjili, has been suspended from office indefinitely pending the outcome of an ongoing audit exercise at the University.
Hon. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited both the former VC and suspended Bursar for questioning and formally written his Ministry for relevant information.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed VC, Dr. Zaruwa, has taken the mantle of leadership and assumed office.
