7 ways to make more music sales online

The whole world is going digital. E-commerce and online shopping is not something that is limited to just physical products and services.

With the diminishing sales of CDs, buying music online has become a trend for music distribution across the years even in Nigeria.

Pulse Music presents tips for you to sell more music online.

Make yourself discoverable
You need to up your searchability game and ensure you get found when people search for music in the online music store. What sort of tags are you using? Asides from the artist/group name and song name, you can also use words that inspire your genre of music or music style. If you create Fela inspired music, you can use words like “Afrobeat” and “Nigerian music”.
Create attention grabbing cover art
Cover arts of albums and single have the power to conceive stories of their own. It helps if you create a cover that can speak for itself and calling in customers.
Make song covers
Cover songs are a great way to get noticed. Find a song you are comfortable with or a song that is getting major traction to cover. Right now several Nigerian artists have covered Adele’s ‘Hello’. Their versions have probably made some of you search for their old tracks to see if they actually did justice to the British singer’s ballad.
Make a video
Videos are a great way to spread the word and let people know and remind about the existence of your song. Your video upload should not just be limited to YouTube. You can also put your videos on iTunes.
Reviews
Don’t be afraid of reviews. Reviews/critics also help with music sales. Get your network of family, friends and business partners to review and rate your album on whatever platform you decide to sell it on.
Albums in iTunes with customer reviews sell 33% more than albums without them”, according to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
Use web links
With iTunes, you can create web links that lead directly to your page or your albums/singles.
Sharing is caring
How do you want your music to sell if you don’t share details about this with your network? Share web links. iTunes has a “Tell A Friend Function” which enables you to share reviews and playlists with friends.
